The Writing Center’s customized writing courses are available as virtual instructor-led programs to help increase the clarity, impact, and overall professionalism of on-the-job emails, letters, and reports. In a virtual classroom (allowing training across different time zones), participants explore and practice strategies for clear, direct wording; positive, reader-centered wording; logical organization; and effective editing.
The Writing Center is pleased to use your organization’s or our virtual classroom technology provided by Adapt Knowledge.
As with The Writing Center’s in-person, instructor-led writing programs, our virtual instructor-led training is clearly and simply presented, highly structured, hands-on, and participatory. And it takes full advantage of the Virtual Classroom’s technology. For example, participants can raise virtual hands to ask questions or answer the instructor’s questions via the teleconference, “chat”/text privately with the instructor or with technical support, view PowerPoint slides, view documents selected for peer and instructor feedback, view and print additional course handouts, and view and print each other’s answers to practice exercises posted in Chat or on an Exercise Board.
Writing Training Delivery Approach
- Preliminary discussions between a Writing Center instructor and your company representative(s) ensure the best fit between training objectives and writing course content.
- Highly structured yet lively, interactive instruction encourages involved participation. Exercises modeled after real-life documents ensure assimilation of key strategies and rules and reinforce essential techniques.
- Confidential evaluation of participants’ writing samples provides individual positive and constructive feedback.
- Participants receive A Desk Guide to Business Writing, A Desk Guide to Technical Writing, or other customized manual for immediate class use and long-term reference. In addition to course content, manuals contain numerous document content guides, checklists, and style guides.
